Richard has been playing music in the Dallas area since 1982 and doing business as The Renown Sound since 2005.

“I remember as a young boy watching Louis Armstrong and his band on the TV.
I was amazed at the sounds that Mr. Armstrong and his band produced. The first day my dad and I came home with my first trombone, I went to my bedroom and didn't come out until I played "The Saints Go Marching In". I'm not sure if the rest of the family could hear the same thing I heard, but it was Saints to me. From that day on I was hooked on jazz music. My parents listened to the great artists of the time, and I was exposed to the great singers like Frank Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, and great instrumentalist like J.J . Johnson, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey. I remember learning songs from Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass as a young boy.

When I got to North Texas State University in 1974, I met life-long friends that were eager to share their knowledge of great jazz & blues music. It was there that I discovered Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, Maynard Ferguson, Karl Fontana, Lambert Hendrix & Ross, Singers Unlimited,
Manhattan Transfer, Weather Report, Bill Watrous.

In 1982 I met Bnois King in Dallas, TX in a jazz room called Tim Ballard's Artist & Tapestry. Bnois is and was an incredible jazz guitarist, then I heard him play and sing the blues and what I heard changed me forever. I began to look for the Blues Rooms in Dallas. The first blues room I found was a place called The Nash Street Pub.

There I met Little Joe Blue and my love affair with the blues began. The Juke Box was filled with the blues from the masters of the blues like Muddy Waters, Albert King, BB King, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaugn, Luther Allison, Little Milton, Room Full of Blues and KoKo Taylor.

I went on in the 90's to tour internationally with Lucky Peterson and Bernard Allison.

It gives me great pleasure to share my thoughts and music with you. I hope you find the site easy to use, and visit often to see what's going on. I am always interested in your ideas and comments, so tell me what you think!
